Welcome to the Lincoln Cultural Quarter blogspot

The City of Lincoln has a long tradition as a regional centre for creative people.

Artists and designers live and work in the city and their skills not only enrich the local economy but inspire Lincoln’s cultural scene as well.

The performing arts also add an exciting vibrancy to the culture of the City.

Lincoln's Cultural Quarter, the area incorporating the Collection, the Usher Art Gallery, Lincoln Drill Hall and the Terrace Creative Industries building, provides a creative hub for local cultural activity.

The Theatre Royal, Central Library, Lincoln College and the Lincolnshire County Archive further enrich the cultural theme of the area. Great pubs, clubs and restaurants, as well as an emerging café culture, all add to the mix to make it a great place to be.

On this blog you will find links to the main facilities in the area and up to the minute news of what's going on in the area.

Mystery In Stone Exhibition

African Sculpture returns to The Terrace

An exhibition of Zimbabwean stone sculptures entitled ‘Mystery In Stone’ will be held at The Terrace, Grantham Street, Lincoln, from Tuesday 24th November until Friday 11th December
This highly expressive contemporary stone art of African artists, many of whom are from the Shona Tribe, Zimbabwae, speaks their deep concern, feelings and experiences of the environment around their cultural beliefs.

Zimbabwean stone sculpture is a profound, deeply human expression of the African people that transcends time and space. Sculptors say their ancestors' spirits come in dreams and visions to reveal themselves in images that dwell within the stone. The result is awe-inspiring sculptures, which tell tales of life.

The sculptures are organised around eight themes that represent shared human relationships, emotions and experiences. They represent: The Family, Custom and Legend, Social Comment, The Role of the Elders, The Spirit World, The Role of Women, Village Life, and Nature and Environment:

Keith Luckey Supervisor of The Terrace said, “It is a great honor for all of us at The Terrace to be able to host the return to Lincoln’s Cultural Quarter of this wonderful exhibition.”

The exhibition will be open between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday between 24th November and 11th December, and additionally between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 5th December. Admission is free.

Finery & Filth @ The Terrace!

Dante Ferrara presents an evening of Finery and Filth at Cafe Portico @ The Terrace, Grantham Street Lincoln on Friday 13th November 2009 at 7.30 pm. Experience a delightful hour of music and songs by Henry Purcell and other members of the 'Restoration Rat Pack' plus a ribald tale set in 1695.
This Lincoln artist comes highly recommended by Betty Cooper who had engaged Dante to perform to a group of highly respectable ladies who were swept away by his interpretation of restoration lute music and collasped into to laughter on hearing his cheeky performance of rude songs from this period. Definitely not suitable for those of a puritan disposition.
Cafe Portico also provide the good food and drink to accompany this entertaining, not to be missed evening.
Tickets £5.00 on the door. For further information call 07988 104373.
