Welcome to the Lincoln Cultural Quarter blogspot
The City of Lincoln has a long tradition as a regional centre for creative people.
Artists and designers live and work in the city and their skills not only enrich the local economy but inspire Lincoln’s cultural scene as well.
The performing arts also add an exciting vibrancy to the culture of the City.
Lincoln's Cultural Quarter, the area incorporating the Collection, the Usher Art Gallery, Lincoln Drill Hall and the Terrace Creative Industries building, provides a creative hub for local cultural activity.
The Theatre Royal, Central Library, Lincoln College and the Lincolnshire County Archive further enrich the cultural theme of the area. Great pubs, clubs and restaurants, as well as an emerging café culture, all add to the mix to make it a great place to be.
On this blog you will find links to the main facilities in the area and up to the minute news of what's going on in the area.

Making History: 300 Years of Antiquaries in Britain
17 Oct 2009 to 3 Jan 2010
The Collection, Danes Terrace, Lincoln
More Venue Details and Contact: 01522 550990
Unique treasures from the Society of Antiquaries of London on tour around the UK for the first time in this special exhibition. Guest curated by celebrated historian Dr David Starkey CBE FSA, the exhibition explores the creation of the nation’s heritage over three hundred years since the Society was founded in a London tavern in 1707. Rarely seen objects from the Society’s collections include the Lindsey Psalter, a lock of Edward IV’s hair and part of a Roman bronze equestrian statue found in Lincoln. These will be displayed alongside objects from the museum’s own archaeological collections as well as some more recent finds to provide a narrative illustrating milestones in the discovery, recording, preservation, interpretation and communication of our past, both nationally and regionally.

Lincoln Drill Hall Highlights December
DANCE
There’s no better way of keeping warm than having a really good old boogie so why not get a bunch of friends and work colleagues together and come down to our fabulous disco night ‘Stayin Alive Festive Special’ (5 December.) There’ll be hits aplenty and you can even email your requests in advance to djhereticdj@googlemail.com to make sure you get to strut your funky stuff to your favourite tunes. Tickets are only £6 so it could be just the thing for your work’s Christmas outing!
MUSICsi L . Talking of good music, we have the honour to play host for a 2nd time to the inimitable James Taylor Quartet (6 December) and judging by the sell out gig they performed the last time they came to us, we’d advise you to book asap! We also have the Sinfonia ViVA Schools concert (8 December) which marks the final performance of the collaboration of the Derby based chamber orchestra and local schools to create a unique piece of music.
COMEDYIf a bit of Christmas cheer is what you’re after then look no further than our Red Herring Comedy Club Christmas Special (9 December) - Martin ‘Bigpig’ Mor, Mike Newall and MC Ray Peacock will all be pushing your chuckle buttons and it’s a mere £8/£6 concessions in advance, (£9/£7 on the day) - when you buy 10 tickets the 11th is free so it’s another event that could be perfect for your work’s Christmas outing!
THEATRE
Ok back to the magic of ‘pantoland’... "Sleeping Beauty & The Dragon of Fury" has something for everyone: a beautiful princess, a handsome prince, comedy from one of the best Dames in the business and a fire breathing animated dragon!! Combine all that with great songs, jokes, colourful costumes and some traditional panto magic, and you’ve got a recipe for a wonderful Christmas treat for all the family. Tickets are going extremely fast with some dates sold out already so we recommend booking without delay!
